Man smashes out Wendy’s windows — Cuyahoga Falls, OH
A Cuyahoga Falls man was arrested after police say he walked across the street to purchase a sledgehammer, returned to a Wendy’s restaurant and smashed at least four windows.
Andrew Meiser, 45, was charged Monday with vandalism and inducing panic. He was being treated at a local hospital, police Sgt. Gary Blevins said.
Witnesses say Meiser was eating in the Wendy’s on Howe Avenue, then got up, walked across the street to the Home Depot and purchased a 6-pound hammer, Blevins said.
Meiser is accused of returning to the restaurant about 5:45 p.m. and smashing at least four large windows worth about $4,000.
“He didn’t say anything,” Blevins said. “He bought the sledgehammer at Home Depot, walked backed over and started smashing out the windows. That was it. Just imagine the shock.”
The shattering glass sent customers scurrying and workers dialing 911. None of the customers or workers was injured.
Restaurant workers said they could not comment. A regional spokesman could not be reached for comment.
Blevins said an off-duty Kent police officer was inside the restaurant when the incident unfolded and subdued Meiser until Falls police arrived.
Meiser offered no reason for his actions, Blevins said. “It’s shrouded in mystery,” he said.
